Board News

John Pototschnik, Master Signature Member of OPS, has had to curtail plein air work due to eye health problems. It goes without saying that John is greatly admired by OPS members. When the board received his heart-felt letter resigning his membership, they unanimously agreed to send the following to John:

It is the opinion of the board that although you can no longer fully participate in OPS activities, it does not alter the fact that you are a Master artist and your life-long body of work and contribution to the art community speaks to that.

Therefore, we would be highly honored if you would accept a lifetime membership in Outdoor Painters Society with membership distinction of Master Signature-Emeritus. This designation is well earned...and richly deserved.

We can still be inspired and taught by John through his works and his blog posts.

What art offers is space—a certain breathing room for the spirit. John Updike

The artist is the opposite of the politically minded individual, the opposite of the reformer, the opposite of the idealist. The artist does not tinker with the universe, he recreates it out of his own experience and understanding of life. Henry Miller

No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist. Oscar Wilde.

SAVE THE DATES! MAY 21-26, 2018

The annual Plein Air Southwest juried membership show is changing from a gallery exhibition to a Six-day competition paint out event in Rockport TX! The cities of Rockport, Fulton, Aransas Pass, and Port A are our paint out destination! Rockport Center for the Arts will host the exhibition and awards reception. Speaking of awards, the cash awards are increased from $12,000 to $15,000 and we anticipate up to $15,000 in sponsors’ merchandise certificates. We are still finalizing the exhibition details with the art center but in the meantime, we wanted to share this exciting news. The judge (to be announced) will lead a three-day plein air workshop in Rockport, May 27-29.

A more detailed announcement will be emailed to membership later this summer.
